Would your team benefit from some digital design training?
How we helped a communications team
Working in a large secondary school, the team were responsible for designing marketing and publicity material such as brochures, posters, leaflets, and social media posts. They were using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator but were largely self-taught.
They knew there were quicker ways to do things but didn’t have the time to embark on a lengthy online search or generic course.
Does this sound like your team? Then read on!
The communications officer contacted us, and after a free consultation, we put together a bespoke training programme for them in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and social media, focusing on what they needed to do their work more efficiently and effectively.
We used live projects as starting points and worked through tools and techniques for:
- Creating patterns
- Type effects
- Using layers
- Combining images
- Creating templates and presets
- Working with libraries
- Using styles
- Drawing tools
- Using colour
- Mapping Word styles
Our main project was putting together a school yearbook which had a lot of different styles and needed to have engaging content.
We worked with them on a face-to-face basis in their own offices saving them time and travel costs. These were weekly 2-hour sessions for a total of 6 sessions (12 hours total training time).
So glad we found Clare Davey at digi-training to come to our workplace to deliver 1:1 training. We searched lots of different training options and nothing seemed to suit our needs and budget. Then we found digi-training! Clare has endless patience and a wealth of experience and knowledge. Can’t recommend her highly enough.

Bringing a team back together post-pandemic
A television production company contacted us to see if we could provide remote training for their team. This was at the end of the pandemic, and they were all still working from home. The team leader felt that group training would not only upskill his team but be a way of connecting after so long working apart.
They wanted to improve their skills in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects. We delivered this training by using three of our highly skilled tutors, each specialising in one of these programmes. The sessions were delivered in the pre-Christmas period, which is a bit quieter for the company. We coordinated between ourselves to make sure our training sessions worked seamlessly across the programmes in a typical creative workflow, such as designing a logo in Illustrator that would then be animated in After Effects.
Through our discovery call, we got a good idea of the type of work the team were responsible for producing and the level they were at and were able to plan appropriately. A proposal containing an outline of sessions and a quote was submitted for approval before the start of training.
The training covered:
- Document set up
- Making selections
- Using parent pages
- Devices for highlighting text
- Using grids and guides
- Layer masks
- Creating patterns and backgrounds
- Image trace
One team member, who was fairly confident in Photoshop and was just coming along to the session for team building, even managed to learn a few tricks he hadn’t known about. As they say, ‘You don’t know what you don’t know’!
